For over 15 years, Chandran has been lighting up the stage with a unique fusion of reggae, punk, and social activism. Based in Madrid, this eight-member band is known for their high-energy performances that invite everyone to move, groove, and think. With reggae as their core, they bring a diverse mix of sounds that break the mold, playing everything from the roots style of Bob Marley to the politically charged punk of The Clash.

Founded in 2009, Chandran began humbly with three friends, a microphone, and a makeshift studio. Their name is a tribute to Sudha Chandran, an Indian dancer who, after losing her leg, continued to perform and inspire others with her resilience. That spirit of perseverance has stayed with the band, helping them evolve and grow over the years while keeping their core message intact: music is about more than entertainment; it’s a vehicle for social change.
The Chandran Sound
Chandran’s musical influences are as broad as their message. Their sound blends classic reggae rhythms with the raw energy of punk rock, drawing inspiration from artists like Fermín Muguruza and Joe Strummer. The band’s songwriting is a collaborative process: one member brings an idea to rehearsal, and everyone contributes their unique touch until the song takes shape. This synergy comes through in both their studio recordings and their live performances.

Their most recent album, Upcoming Uprising, captures that energy perfectly. Moving away from modern recording techniques where each instrument is tracked separately, Chandran recorded the album with all members playing together in the studio. The result? A raw, immersive sound that makes you feel like you’re right there in the crowd.
A Journey Across Spain and Beyond
Chandran’s journey has taken them to festivals across Spain, including Festimad Festival, where they were finalists. Despite their success, Chandran remains grounded in their mission to inspire change through music.
